With this module, it has allowed me to develop a range of different skills in order to help develop ideas. With the module it has allowed me to view both posters and publications in different ways, with looking at different ways of approaching the subject and finding different processes to do this with. The Cellphone Symphony brief it forced myself to break the conventions of a poster, with using different processes such as collage, photographs and rules that collated into ideas, trying to break the conventions of a poster. Throughout both briefs I have widened my knowledge on process, with learning how to book bind, use indesign and the importance of paper stocks. With the three different approaches towards making a publication it has widened by knowledge of how to differently approach a brief and how to create a theme or idea by using categorisation, rules and provocative operations. The Steve Hockett workshop helped as it also introduced to the working of using mistakes to create something that is good and having the mantra that mistakes aren't bad. The twenty six character brief especially allowed me to use the design process to create a more ambitious idea into an outcome, with the brief allowing myself to creatively explore and have fun with the outcome. The limitations to this module was that more research should have been done into what contemporary graphic designers are producing and the different style of publication, in order to compare and analyse. Also, I need to get more involved from the start of the module, with using these different techniques that will get me out of my comfort zone in order to develop myself and to get comfortable with the different techniques and experimenting more. I have learnt throughout the module that the design process is just as important as the final outcome, with being ale to expand on a theme with finding new ways to approach it. Overall, this module has developed my skills from learning different ways of approaching a theme, to the practical skills such as binding, of which has led me out of my comfort zones at time, especially with the cellphone symphony brief, and allowed me to creatively explore the different subject matters from different approaches.
